FRAME


The frame of the Edo-kites are different in size.
I will introduce some of the traditional Edo-kite's frames.
The red dots in each pictures are bridle points.

1.A basic frame (4 pieces of bamboo, and 3 bridle lines.)

This is a frame for a miniature, or a small kite.

2.Chubari Dako

This is a frame for a small kite. (about 50 centimeters high)

3.Kaku Dako (A rectangler Kite)
(7 pieces of bamboo, and 6 bridle lines.)

This is the frame for a little bit bigger kite than the small kite.
(about 50 or 60 centimeters high)

(8 pieces of bamboo, and 10 bridle lines.)

This is a frame for a little bit bigger kite than the small kite.
(about 50 or 60 centimeters high)

5.Edo Kite
(10 pieces of bamboo, and 14 bridle lines.)

This is the basic frame for Edo-kite. You can make the Edo-kites about the size of 7 feet high with this frame.
You can put three more bridle lines on the bottom of the kite.

6.A frame for a strong wind.
(11 pieces of bamboo, and 14 bridle lines.)

If you want to fly an Edo-kite with strong wind, it is better to glue one thin bamboo on the place between the top horizontal bamboo and the second horizontal bamboo as shown in the picture. We call this thin bamboo "CHIKARA BONE (power spar)".
You can put three more bridle lines on the bottom of the kite.

If you want to fly an Edo-kite with more strong wind, you should better to use one more thin bamboo as shown in the picture.
You can put three more bridle lines on the bottom of the kite.

8.Edo Kite
(9 pieces of horizontal bamboo, and 26 bridle lines.)

This is a frame for over 8 feet Edo-kite.
You can put three more bridle lines on the bottom of the kite.

This is a frame for over 8 feet Edo-kite.
You can put five more bridle lines on the bottom of the kite.
